# Check in and out

Clock in when you arrive, record your breaks and clock out when you leave. Your paid hours feed the salary figures.

Check-in is the shop's clock: it records when each person arrives, pauses and leaves, and those hours feed straight into the salary figures.

Where to find it: Check-in; MANAGE › Settings › Check-in and breaks.

## Before you start

- You are assigned to the shop you work at ([Add someone to the team](https://zeropos.shop/help/users-and-roles)).
- If your shop asks for it, the day is open at that shop: [Opening float: open the day and count the cash](https://zeropos.shop/help/open-the-day).

## Steps

### Your shift

1. Open [Check-in](https://app.zeropos.shop/planning/check-in).
2. Tap **Check in**, pick the shop you are working at, and tap **Check in** again to confirm.
3. For a pause, choose its kind (**Break**, **Smoke**, **Lunch**, **Errand** or **Other**) and tap **Start break**.
4. Tap **End break** when you are back.
   - While you are out, the timer shows **Paid · …m remaining**, then **Unpaid · over …m**.
5. At the end of the shift, tap **Check out**.
6. Find your shifts and hours in the **Me** tab, under **My shifts**.

### For managers

7. Open the **Team** tab and choose a day, a week, a month or a year.
8. Filter by person or by shop to read each person's paid hours and breaks.
9. Tap **Add shift** to record a shift somebody forgot to clock.
10. For a shift marked **no-checkout**, tap **Edit** and set the real times, or tap **Mark reviewed**.

## What happens next

- Paid hours are the shift minus every break that ran past the paid limit, counted in full ([Check-in rules: paid breaks, the cut-off and opening the day](https://zeropos.shop/help/check-in-rules)). They feed the salary figures ([Read your salary page](https://zeropos.shop/help/my-salary)).
- A shift still open at the shop's cut-off time is closed automatically and marked **no-checkout**, when auto-close is on.
- Closing the day at a shop checks out everyone still clocked in there ([Close the day](https://zeropos.shop/help/close-the-day)).

## Where the rules are set

Break limits live in [MANAGE › Settings › Check-in and breaks](https://app.zeropos.shop/backoffice/settings/users-checkin). **Paid break (minutes)** is how long a break stays paid; **Break-exceeded grace (minutes)** adds minutes before managers are alerted.

## If you see this

- “**Today hasn't been opened at this location yet.**” — What to do: Your shop opens the day before anyone clocks in. Open it on New Sale first ([Opening float: open the day and count the cash](https://zeropos.shop/help/open-the-day)), then check in.
- “**You don't have any location assigned yet.**” — What to do: Ask a manager to add the shop to your user ([Add someone to the team](https://zeropos.shop/help/users-and-roles)).
- “**You're not assigned to that location.**” — What to do: Pick one of your own shops, or ask a manager to add this one to your user.
- “**You already have an open shift. Check out first.**” — What to do: You are still clocked in from earlier. Tap **Check out**, then check in at the new shop.

## Good to know

- The timer turns red once a break runs into unpaid time.
