# Make a sale

Ring up products, credit the sellers and take payment on New Sale. The sale goes straight into Invoices, with its receipt ready to print or email.

New Sale is the pinned first row of the sidebar, so it is always one tap away. Products fill the left of the screen; the cart, the customer, the sellers and the payment sit on the right.

For anything the customer pays for in full today. Paying in parts over several visits: [Layaway: hold items while a customer pays over time](https://zeropos.shop/help/layaway). Selling a treatment from the diary: [Treatments at the till: today's bookings and treatment gifts](https://zeropos.shop/help/treatments-at-the-till).

Where to find it: New Sale.

## Before you start

- If your shop asks for it, the day is open at this shop: [Opening float: open the day and count the cash](https://zeropos.shop/help/open-the-day).
- The shop picked at the top of the till is the one you sell from, and its stock is the stock that goes down.
- A customer, unless your shop allows walk-ins ([Sale options: customers, minimum prices and receipts](https://zeropos.shop/help/sale-options)).

## Steps

1. Tap each product card to add it to the **Cart**, or find it first with **Search Product**.
   - With **Barcode scanning** on, tap **Scan** and scan the product's barcode.
   - Each tap adds its own line. With **Quantity steppers** on, use the + and − buttons instead.
2. Search for the customer by name, phone or email and tap them, or fill in the form to add someone new.
   - Where walk-ins are allowed you can leave it empty: the cart shows **Walk-in**.
3. Check **Sellers**: you are on it at 100%. To share the sale, tap **Add seller** and pick your colleague.
   - Split with **Even**, by % or by a fixed amount. The shares must add up to 100%, or to the total.
4. Select a payment method under **Payment methods**. Its amount fills in with the total.
   - To split the payment, select a second method and type how much goes on each.
5. Tap **Create Sale**.
   - If something is missing, the button says what instead, such as **Customer required** or **Payments short**.
6. From the confirmation, print the receipt, email it, or start the next sale.

## What happens next

- Stock: each product leaves the stock of the shop you sold from. Treatments have no stock to take.
- Money: each payment counts, method by method, in the shop's [Close the day](https://zeropos.shop/help/close-the-day).
- Sellers: each seller is credited with their share of the sale, and their commission follows that split.
- Customer: a named customer has the sale on their file and earns loyalty points if your shop runs them ([The customer file](https://zeropos.shop/help/customer-file)).
- The sale is in [BACKOFFICE › Invoices](https://app.zeropos.shop/backoffice/invoices) straight away ([Find an invoice](https://zeropos.shop/help/find-an-invoice)). To take it back, use [Refund a sale](https://zeropos.shop/help/refund-a-sale).

## Common questions

### Does it matter who is on Sellers?

Yes. Each person's share counts toward their sales and their commission, so add everyone who served the customer before you tap **Create Sale**.

### How does the till work out the change?

Type what the customer hands over as the cash amount, and the line underneath shows **Cash tendered … → Change due** with the change to give. Then set the cash amount back to what is owed (with two methods, tap **Balance to total**) before you tap **Create Sale**.

### How do I sell a treatment?

Treatments have their own tab on the product grid, and **Booked in today** above it lists today's appointments. The whole flow is in [Treatments at the till: today's bookings and treatment gifts](https://zeropos.shop/help/treatments-at-the-till).

### Why does the button say Ask for approval?

The ticket is under its products' minimum prices, so a manager has to approve it: [Below-minimum approvals](https://zeropos.shop/help/below-minimum-approvals). To lower a price on purpose: [Discounts at the till](https://zeropos.shop/help/discounts-and-deals).

### I made a mistake on a finished sale. What now?

Refund it and ring it up again, or have a manager correct it: [Fix a sale: edit, cancel or refund?](https://zeropos.shop/help/fix-a-sale) helps you choose.

## If you see this

- “**A customer is required to close a sale. Pick one or add a new customer.**” — What to do: Your shop names a customer on every sale. Pick or add one; the owner sets this rule in [Sale options: customers, minimum prices and receipts](https://zeropos.shop/help/sale-options).
- “**Payments are … short of the total. Adjust the amounts before closing the sale.**” — What to do: The payment amounts don't add up to the total. Correct them, or with two methods tap **Balance to total** to put the difference on the last one.
- “**Payments exceed the total by …. Adjust the amounts before closing the sale.**” — What to do: The button reads **Payments over** because the amounts add up to more than the total, often after typing the cash handed over to read the change. Set the amounts back to what is owed, or with two methods tap **Balance to total**.
- “**The day hasn't been opened yet. Open the day to continue.**” — What to do: Type the **Opening float** and tap **Open day** ([Opening float: open the day and count the cash](https://zeropos.shop/help/open-the-day)). The cart is still there when the day is open.
- “**The day is closed at this shop. Reopen it to continue.**” — What to do: The day was closed while you were selling. Write why and tap **Reopen day** ([Opening float: open the day and count the cash](https://zeropos.shop/help/open-the-day#reopen)). The cart is still there.
- “**No ways of paying are set up for this region, so the till can't take money. The owner can add them under Settings → Payment methods.**” — What to do: Nobody can take money until the owner adds payment methods: [Add a payment method](https://zeropos.shop/help/payment-methods).
- “**Seller percentages must total 100% (currently …%).**” — What to do: Change the shares until they add up to 100%, or tap **Even** to split them equally.
- “**Network hiccup — your sale wasn't sent. Try again; your cart is still here.**” — What to do: Check the Wi-Fi. If you are unsure, check Invoices for the sale before tapping **Create Sale** again.

## Good to know

- Leaving New Sale halfway is safe: the cart, customer and sellers wait on this device until you come back.
- The minimum price on each product card is for staff only. Customers never see it.
