# Print a receipt again, or email it

Print another copy of a sale's receipt, or email it to the customer, right after the sale or later from its invoice.

Every sale keeps its receipt. Right after the sale it is in the **Sale created** window; later it is on the sale's invoice page, which anyone who can see the sale can open.

To give the customer another copy. To correct the sale itself: [Fix a sale: edit, cancel or refund?](https://zeropos.shop/help/fix-a-sale). To change how every receipt looks: [Design the receipt](https://zeropos.shop/help/receipts-and-printing).

Where to find it: BACKOFFICE › Invoices; New Sale; BACKOFFICE › Layaway.

## Before you start

- To print, this shop's printer is set up ([Receipt printer setup: Epson, browser or cloud](https://zeropos.shop/help/printer-setup)).
- To email, the owner has connected an email provider ([Connect your email and set up marketing emails](https://zeropos.shop/help/set-up-email-sending)).

## Steps

### Right after the sale

1. In **Sale created**, check the address under **Email receipt**: it starts with the email on the customer's file.
2. Type another address if the customer wants it elsewhere, then tap **Email**.
3. Tap **Print receipt**: the sale's invoice page opens in a new tab and prints the receipt at once, in the print dialog or straight on the shop's Epson printer.
   - With a cloud-bridge printer, the window shows **Print at …** instead: it sends the receipt straight to the shop's printer.
4. Tap **Start new sale** when you are done.

### Later, from the invoice

5. Find the sale in [BACKOFFICE › Invoices](https://app.zeropos.shop/backoffice/invoices) and open it ([Find an invoice](https://zeropos.shop/help/find-an-invoice)).
6. Tap the print button under **Receipt preview**: **Print receipt (80mm)**, **Print to thermal printer** with an Epson, or **Print at …** with a cloud bridge.
   - **Print receipt (80mm)** opens the print dialog: choose the 80 mm roll and no margins.
7. Under **Email receipt to**, check the address or type another, and tap **Send receipt**.
   - Typing another address doesn't change the customer's file. **Reset** puts the file's email back.
8. For a full-page copy, tap **Page (A4)** and print from the dialog.

## What happens next

- The email uses the **Sale receipt** template and leaves from the shop's own address, even while that template's **Enabled** is off. A message confirms where it went ([Email templates: the wording of every email](https://zeropos.shop/help/email-templates)).
- Printed and emailed receipts are in the shop's **Customer language** ([Languages](https://zeropos.shop/help/languages)).
- Nothing else changes: printing or emailing again doesn't touch stock, money or the day close.

## Common questions

### Can I reprint a refund?

Yes. Open the credit note from **Related invoices** on the sale and print or email it the same way; the email uses the **Refund confirmation** template. Right after the refund, **Print credit note** on the **Refund processed** window opens it too.

### Can I reprint a layaway receipt?

Yes, while it is open too: its page has a **Layaway receipt** card with the same print button and **Send receipt**. The printed and the emailed copy both show **Paid so far** and **Balance due** ([Layaway: hold items while a customer pays over time](https://zeropos.shop/help/layaway)).

### Can I print a gift card slip again?

No. A card's code shows once, on the slip printed when it is sold. A reprinted receipt lists the card without its code ([Gift cards](https://zeropos.shop/help/gift-cards)).

### The customer has no email on file. Can I still email the receipt?

Yes: type their address in the box. It is used for this receipt only; to keep it, add it to their file ([The customer file](https://zeropos.shop/help/customer-file)).

### Can I email a receipt from the Invoices list?

Managers and owners find **Email receipt** in a row's ⋮ menu. It sends to the email on file straight away, without showing the address, and a message says where it went: use the invoice page when you need to check it.

### Whose receipts can I email?

Anyone who makes sales can email the receipt of a sale they rang up or are named on, and of any layaway. Another person's sale needs **Email invoices**, which owners, administrators and managers have ([What each role can do](https://zeropos.shop/help/roles-and-permissions)).

### Can every receipt be emailed automatically?

Yes: the owner switches on **Email receipt on validate** in [Sale options: customers, minimum prices and receipts](https://zeropos.shop/help/sale-options), with **Sale receipt** left **Enabled** in [Email templates: the wording of every email](https://zeropos.shop/help/email-templates). Each finished sale is then emailed to a customer who has an email on file.

## If you see this

- “**Enter an email address to send the receipt to.**” — What to do: The address box is empty. Type the customer's address.
- “**That doesn't look like a valid email address.**” — What to do: Check for a missing @, a space or a typing slip, then try again.
- “**This customer has no email on file. Open the invoice to type an address.**” — What to do: The Invoices list sends only to the email on file. Open the invoice and type the address under **Email receipt to**.
- “**You don't have permission to email receipts. Ask the owner.**” — What to do: You can email the receipts of your own sales and of layaways. Someone else's sale needs **Email invoices** ([What each role can do](https://zeropos.shop/help/roles-and-permissions)).
- “**The email provider refused the message, so the receipt wasn't sent. The owner can check the email settings.**” — What to do: Nothing reached the customer. The owner checks the provider's settings: [Connect your email and set up marketing emails](https://zeropos.shop/help/set-up-email-sending).
- “**Your shop has reached today's limit for emails sent through Zero POS, so the receipt wasn't sent. Try again tomorrow, or connect the shop's own email provider in Settings → Integrations.**” — What to do: A shop with no email provider of its own sends through Zero POS's shared address, which allows each shop a set number of emails a day. Nothing reached the customer. Send it again tomorrow (the count starts again at midnight UTC), or the owner connects the shop's own provider and the limit no longer applies: [Connect your email and set up marketing emails](https://zeropos.shop/help/set-up-email-sending).
- “**The receipt couldn't be sent. Try again in a moment.**” — What to do: Wait a moment and send it again. Each person can email 20 receipts in ten minutes and 200 a day, so after a long run of them it takes a few minutes.
- “**Email queued to … (dev mode — no real email was sent).**” — What to do: No email provider is connected yet, so nothing left. The owner connects one: [Connect your email and set up marketing emails](https://zeropos.shop/help/set-up-email-sending).
- “**Printing is disabled for this location.**” — What to do: This shop has no printer mode. The owner chooses one: [Receipt printer setup: Epson, browser or cloud](https://zeropos.shop/help/printer-setup).
- “**No Epson device URL configured for this location. Open Settings → Printer to set it.**” — What to do: The shop prints to an Epson that has no address yet: [Receipt printer setup: Epson, browser or cloud](https://zeropos.shop/help/printer-setup).

## Good to know

- The receipt preview on the invoice page is drawn at true scale: what you see is what prints.
