# Sale options: customers, minimum prices and receipts

Decide whether a sale needs a customer and which details, what happens under the minimum price, and what the till shows.

**Sale options** holds the rules for every single sale. Naming a customer on each one builds a record you can use later (receipts by email, loyalty points, a history per person) but adds a step to every ticket.

Where to find it: MANAGE › Settings › Sale options.

## Before you start

- By default only owners and administrators can change these rules; managers see the screen read-only.

## Steps

1. Open [MANAGE › Settings › Sale options](https://app.zeropos.shop/backoffice/settings/sale-options).
2. Under **Customer at the till**, choose **Every sale names a customer** or **Walk-ins allowed — a customer is optional**.
3. Switch on the details a customer must have: **Email is mandatory**, **Phone is mandatory**, **ID is mandatory**, **Comment is mandatory**.
   - They apply whenever a customer is added to a sale.
4. Choose the **Below-minimum price policy**: **Allow**, **Require manager approval** or **Block**.
5. Switch on **Email receipt on validate**, **Barcode scanning** or **Quantity steppers** if you want them.
6. Tap **Save**.

## What happens next

- Sales from now on follow the new rules. Sales already made don't change.
- Tips have a page of their own, **Tips**, next to this one: whether to ask, what customers can choose and who gets them ([Tips: what customers can choose and who gets them](https://zeropos.shop/help/tips)).
- With walk-ins allowed, a sale can close with nobody named, but a layaway still needs a customer.
- With **Email receipt on validate** on, each finished sale emails the receipt to a customer who has an email, unless **Sale receipt** is switched off in [Email templates: the wording of every email](https://zeropos.shop/help/email-templates).
- With **Require manager approval**, a ticket under the minimum needs a manager's yes: [Below-minimum approvals](https://zeropos.shop/help/below-minimum-approvals).

## What each option does

**Customer at the till**: with **Every sale names a customer**, staff pick or add a customer before a sale can close. With walk-ins allowed, they add one only when it matters.

**Below-minimum price policy**: what happens when a ticket is under the combined minimum of its lines. **Require manager approval** needs a manager's phone or PIN before the sale goes through. **Allow** lets the sale through, but the till still asks for a manager's approval first. **Block** refuses the sale, even after a manager has approved it. Every sale under the minimum is marked in Invoices.

**Barcode scanning** adds a **Scan** button to the till. **Quantity steppers** add + and − buttons to product cards and cart lines.

## Common questions

### Who can change these settings?

Owners and administrators by default. The owner can give the permission to others: [What each role can do](https://zeropos.shop/help/roles-and-permissions).

### Should we name a customer on every sale?

It depends how you sell. A named customer gets receipts by email, loyalty points and a history; a walk-in buying one lipstick may not want to give a name. You can change it any time.

## If you see this

- “**Customer required**” — What to do: This is the till's sale button when **Every sale names a customer** is chosen and no customer is on the sale.
- “**This sale is below minimum price and selling below minimum is disabled in settings.**” — What to do: The policy is **Block**, so the sale is refused even after a manager approves it. To let a manager's approval through, choose **Require manager approval**.

## Good to know

- A till left open picks up a change once you leave New Sale and come back, or reload the page.
