What a treatment really costs

Two things go into every treatment. The products: the cleanser, the mask, the serum, the oil, each costed at what you paid for the amount one client uses. And the time: the therapist’s pay for those minutes, plus the room’s share of rent, power, laundry and everything else that ticks over while the door is shut.

Add up a month of those overheads with the pay, divide by the hours the room is open for treatments, and you have the cost of an hour. It is usually far more than the product, which is why a quick treatment priced off its products alone loses money.

From cost to the price on the menu

Divide the cost by what is left once your margin is taken, exactly as for a product: price = cost ÷ (1 − margin). Add VAT or IGI on top if your menu shows prices with tax.

Then look at profit per hour, not just per treatment. A short treatment with a modest price can earn the room more per hour than a long one priced high, and the diary only has so many hours.

Check it against the diary

A price that works on paper only works if the slots fill. Look at which treatments are booked, which sit empty, and how often a client buys a product on the way out — a treatment that sells the cream used in it earns more than its own price.

How Zero POS does this for you

Your treatment menu, priced and booked in one place

In Zero POS each treatment has its own price, length and calendar colour. The length blocks the right time in the diary, and treatments you mark as bookable can be booked by clients online, within your opening hours.

At the till a treatment sells in the same basket as the products the client takes home, and counts in the day’s takings, the reports and the seller’s commission like any other line.
