Mark tester or damaged

Take units off stock that were opened as testers or are too damaged to sell. Stock drops at once and no money moves.

How-toBy default: Owner · Administrator · Manager · Seller · LogisticWhere: Quick actions › Mark tester or damagedChecked 12 Oct 2026

Owners can change what each role may do.

Use this when stock leaves the shelf without a sale: a tester opened for customers to try, or a product that arrived broken.

When to use it

Not for a customer bringing something back: that is Refund a sale. To fix a miscount, use Correct stock by hand (Stock adjust).

Choose Tester or Defective, add the items, then record them.

Steps

  1. Step 1

Open Quick actions › Mark tester or damaged and check that Location is your shop.

  2. Step 2

Choose Tester for items opened for customers to try, or Defective for stock that can't be sold.

  3. Step 3

Search by name or SKU and tap + on each product, or tap Scan barcode and scan it. Each joins Selected items and stays there while you search for the next.

  4. Step 4

Set the quantity on each line.

  5. Step 5

Add a Note so everyone knows why later, for example an in-store demo or damaged on arrival.

  6. Step 6

Tap Record tester or Record defective, then Confirm.

What happens next

  • The quantities leave that shop's stock at once and are logged in each product's history.
  • No money moves: nothing is charged or refunded, and the day's takings don't change.
  • Testers and write-offs show in the Stock Movements report (INSIGHTS › Reports), so you can see what was lost and why.

If you see this…

  • On screen

    Product not found

    What to do

The scanned code matches no product's Barcode or SKU. Search by name instead, or check the product's form in Products and stock.

    What to do

The screen couldn't reach Zero POS. Check the connection, tap Scan barcode and scan again, or type the name in the search box.
