Move from your old till to Zero POS
The move in order: create your workspace, set it up, bring your products in, add past sales if you want them, then switch over with your card machine and your team.
Moving is a few jobs done in order, most of them once. Your old till can keep running until the team feels at home in Zero POS.
When to use it
Before your first day on Zero POS. For one import on its own: Import your product list or Import past sales.
Before you start
- Your product list as it comes out of your old till or a spreadsheet: a name and a price for each product is enough to start.
- How you charge VAT: included in your prices, added on top, or not at all (How prices and tax work: VAT or sales tax).
- Each person's name and email, to add them to the team.
Steps
Get the shop ready
- Step 1
Create your workspace from the website (Create your workspace: sign up for Zero POS).
- Step 2
Follow the guided setup as far as your test sale (Set up a new shop: guided setup and the settings tour).
- Step 3
Import your products: tap Import on BACKOFFICE › Inventory › Products and fill in the template, or use your old till's export (Import your product list).
- Step 4
Or ask the Zero POS team with “Ask for my free import” on the website's switching page: during early access, they load your products and opening stock for you, free.
Bring your past sales, if you want them
- Step 5
Put your past sales in one spreadsheet, with the columns MANAGE › Settings › Import history lists, in that order.
- Step 6
Choose the file: you see what it holds before anything is written.
- Step 7
Import it: everything goes in together, and only once (Import past sales).
Switch over
- Step 8
Add your team in MANAGE › Users; each person sets their own password from an email (Add someone to the team).
- Step 9
Keep your card machine: take the payment on it as you do now, and tick the card method at the till (Take payment at the till).
- Step 10
Run both tills side by side for as long as you like, ringing each sale up on one of them only.
- Step 11
On the day you stop using the old till, count your stock in Zero POS (Blind stock-take: count your shop's stock).
- Step 12
That evening, close the day at each shop (Close the day).
What happens next
- Imported products are on the till at once, with their opening stock at each shop.
- Past sales show in sales reports, dashboards and customer files, numbered IMP-…; they don't touch your cash or bank figures.
- Each file can be imported only once, so a second tap never doubles anything.
Questions
What does the free import cover?
Can I bring my customers across?
Why is my stock off after running both tills?
Good to know
- Import a handful of products first, sell one in a test sale, then import the rest.
