Your day

Close the day

Count each payment method against what the till expects, then close the shop's day and print its slip. The boxes start at the expected amounts, so type what you really count.

How-toBy default: Owner · Administrator · Manager · SellerWhere: Close day (bottom of the sidebar)Checked 21 Oct 2026

Owners can change what each role may do.

Close day sits at the bottom of the sidebar. The dialog shows one shop's day and, when counting is on, asks for a real count, method by method, before it lets the day close.

When to use it

At the end of each working day, at each shop. At the start of the day: Opening float: open the day and count the cash.

On this page

Before you start

  • If your shop opens its day, it was opened at this shop (Opening float: open the day and count the cash); if not, the dialog shows the report but can't close it. A shop that doesn't open its day closes it all the same.
  • Leave the cash you started with, the Opening float, out of your count: the till expects only today's takings.
  • Count the drawer, and have the card terminal's total for the day to hand.

Steps

  1. Step 1

Tap Close day at the bottom of the sidebar.

  2. Step 2

Check the Location and leave the Date on today.

    • Another date only shows that day's report: closing always closes today.
    • Today is the shop's: after midnight it is the next day, and the day before can't be closed any more, so close before midnight.
  3. Step 3

Read the report: Sales, Refunds, Seller totals, and what the till expects for each method under Payment methods.

  4. Step 4

Under Counted cash / tender, overwrite each box with what you actually counted.

    • The boxes start filled with the expected amounts, so an untouched count always reads Balanced.
  5. Step 5

Read the badge: Balanced, or how much is Over or Short.

  6. Step 6

If it is off, recount, and write anything worth knowing in Closing notes (optional).

  7. Step 7

When it balances, tap Close day, then Print for the slip.

What happens next

  • The close keeps what was expected, what was counted and the difference, in the Day closes report (Review the day closes: counted against expected).
  • If the day is reopened or closed again later, this count is kept, never overwritten: Day closes lists it as an earlier count.
  • At a shop that doesn't open its day, the slip and the report say Day not opened: there was no count in the morning.
  • Anyone still clocked in at that shop is checked out (Check in and out).
  • By default owners, administrators and managers get a Day closed notification, unless it is switched off in MANAGE › Settings › Notifications.

A day closed too early

Nothing is counted over: each close is kept, and the Day closes report lists every earlier count with who set it aside and why (Review the day closes: counted against expected).

At a shop that opens its day, New Sale says the day is closed, by whom and when, and offers Reopen day: write why and tap it (Opening float: open the day and count the cash). Sell, then close the day as usual: the count covers the whole day.

At a shop that doesn't open its day, the till keeps selling after the close. Open Close day, tap Close again, write why under Why are you closing again?, count the whole day and tap Close again.

Anyone who can close the day at that shop can reopen it or close it again. Owners, administrators and managers are told either way, with the reason.

Tips taken today

When the shop asks for tips, the dialog shows the day's Tips and how many sales had one. They are not sales: each method that took a tip expects it too, so the drawer and the card terminal add up (Take payment at the till).

Count cash tips with the rest of the drawer, and pay them out after the close. The slip prints Tips taken under the payment methods.

Someone allowed to see commissions also sees Who gets what: each person's part by the shop's rule (Tips: what customers can choose and who gets them). The team's part is shared by everyone checked in that day, so before the close it reads Who gets what so far. Each person's tips for a period are in the Staff report (Pay, commission, targets and costs: which report answers what).

Questions

The cash is really short. What do I do?
Don't change the counted amounts to make it balance. Leave the day open, write down what you counted, and tell a manager or the owner straight away; they decide what happens next.
Our shop doesn't open its day. Can we still close it?
Yes. Close day counts and closes it like any other day, and the dialog says there was no opening count. The slip and the Day closes report mark the day Day not opened. The till keeps selling after the close; to count a later sale, close again with Close again.
Do I count the opening float?
No. The till expects only the money taken today, so take the float out first. Counted with the float, the cash reads Over by exactly the float.
Why is the expected cash lower than the day's sales?
Expected amounts are money actually taken today. A layaway counts only the deposit or instalment received, not the full ticket (Layaway: hold items while a customer pays over time).
Why does a box start below 0?
That way of paying gave back more than it took today: a card refund bigger than the day's card sales, say. Count it as it is, minus sign and all: the card terminal's total for the day is below 0 too.
Can we close without counting?
The owner can switch off Track counted cash at close of day. in MANAGE › Settings › Day open / close. The day then closes on the expected totals, with no count and no difference recorded.
Who can close the day?
By default, anyone who can sell. The owner can change that in What each role can do.
Who is Unassigned under Seller totals?
Unassigned is the sales rung up with no seller named on them, and Seller is a seller whose account is gone. The dialog says both in your own screen language; the printed slip says them in the shop's Customer language, like the rest of the slip.

If you see this…

  • On screen

The day has not been opened at …. Open it in the POS before closing.

    What to do

Your shop opens its day, and today's wasn't opened at this shop. Open it on New Sale (Opening float: open the day and count the cash), then close. Whether a shop opens its day is set in MANAGE › Settings › Day open / close or by its own Day open (Add a shop or storage location); a shop that doesn't open its day never sees this.

  • On screen

This day changed a moment ago: another device closed it, or midnight passed at the shop. Check it above.

    What to do

Either another till closed the day first, so it is closed once, with that till's count, in the Day closes report (Review the day closes: counted against expected); or the shop's midnight passed while the dialog was open, and it now shows the new day. A count made the day before can't close it.

  • On screen

Counted total does not match expected total.

    What to do

This is why Close day stays greyed. Recount; if the money is really missing, tell a manager instead of changing the figures.

  • On screen

This day is already closed at ….

    What to do

Somebody has closed it already. You can still tap Print for its slip, with the last count. Closed too early? A shop that doesn't open its day taps Close again; one that does reopens it on New Sale (Opening float: open the day and count the cash).

  • On screen

Write why you are closing again, in 200 characters or fewer.

    What to do

Type a short reason under Why are you closing again?, then tap Close again.

  • On screen

    Could not close day

    What to do

Check the connection and tap Close day again.

Good to know

  • Card payments get a box too: compare it with the card terminal's end-of-day total.
