Opening float: open the day and count the cash
Count the cash you start with and open the shop's day before the first sale. Until the day is open, sales and check-ins at that shop wait.
Owners can change what each role may do.
When your shop asks for an explicit day open, the till asks the first person at each shop to open the day. The cash you start with, the opening float, is noted there.
When to use it
At the start of each working day, at each shop. At the end of the day: Close the day.
Before you start
- Your shop asks for it: Require an explicit day-open at every location. is on in MANAGE › Settings › Day open / close, or the shop's own Day open is Required at this location.
- Count the notes and coins in the drawer.
Steps
- Step 1
Open New Sale and check the shop picked at the top of the till.
- Step 2
When the till asks you to open the day, type the cash in the drawer under Opening float.
- Step 3
Add anything worth noting under Notes (optional).
- Step 4
Tap Open day.
- The window closes and the till is ready to sell.
What happens next
- Sales and check-ins at this shop now go through until the day is closed (Close the day).
- The float is not takings: the close expects only today's payments, so the float stays out of the count.
- By default owners, administrators and managers get a Day opened notification with the float, unless it is switched off in MANAGE › Settings › Notifications.
Reopen a closed day
Once the day is closed, New Sale no longer asks for a float: it says who closed the day and when, and offers Reopen day.
Write why under Why are you reopening the day? and tap Reopen day. There is no float to count: the drawer was just counted.
The count already made is kept and listed in Day closes (Review the day closes: counted against expected); the morning's Opening float stays as it was.
Close the day again as usual (Close the day): the count covers the whole day. Anyone who can close the day at that shop can reopen it.
The close checked out anyone still clocked in, and reopening doesn't undo that: whoever keeps working clocks in again, so their hours count (Check in and out).
Owners, administrators and managers are told, under Day opened in MANAGE › Settings › Notifications: who reopened the day, when, why and the count set aside.
