Selling at the till

Discounts at the till

Lower one item's price, or take a % or an amount off the whole ticket. Discounts come off before VAT.

How-toBy default: Owner · Administrator · Manager · SellerWhere: New SaleChecked 30 Sept 2026

Owners can change what each role may do.

There are two ways to give money off at the counter: a lower price on one line, or a discount on the whole ticket. Either way the till works out VAT on the discounted amount.

When to use it

For money off decided at the counter. A named customer's deal, with gifts and its own claim page, is prepared beforehand: Prepare a deal for one customer.

Steps

  1. Step 1

To discount one item, type its new price in the price box on its cart line.

    • The discount is simply the lower price; the invoice keeps it.
  2. Step 2

To discount the whole ticket, tap Add discount just under Subtotal.

  3. Step 3

Choose % or amount, type the value and tap Apply.

    • Discounted subtotal shows the result. Remove takes the discount off again.
  4. Step 4

Check the total and finish the sale as usual with Create Sale.

What happens next

  • VAT is worked out on the discounted amount, and the receipt shows the discount.
  • Seller shares and commission follow the discounted total.
  • If the discount takes the ticket under its products' minimum prices, the till asks for a manager's approval: Below-minimum approvals.

Questions

A customer brings a deal voucher. What do I do?
Open the deal and tap Convert to sale: the till loads the cart and applies a discount so the total matches the offer. How deals are made: Prepare a deal for one customer.
Why did a small ticket discount trigger an approval?
The till compares the discounted subtotal with the products' combined minimum prices. A ticket discount can take it under even when every line price is fine.
The customer wants to use store credit. Is that a discount?
No. Store credit is money the customer already has, so it is taken as a payment method: Store credit.

    What to do

The discount put the ticket under its minimum prices. Reduce the discount, or ask for approval: Below-minimum approvals.

Good to know

  • Discounts come off before VAT, so the tax is worked out on the discounted amount.
  • One ticket discount at a time: applying a new one replaces the old.
