Company info: name, time zone and tax
Your business's name and legal details, the time zone that sets the shop's day, and how you charge tax: VAT, or sales tax in the United States.
Owners can change what each role may do.
Most of this was filled in when the workspace was created. Check it once, and come back when your details change.
Before you start
- Read How prices and tax work: VAT or sales tax before touching the VAT settings: how you charge VAT locks at your first sale with VAT.
Steps
- Step 1
- Step 2
Under Identity, check the Company name: it heads every receipt unless the receipt has its own header line.
- Step 3
Fill in Business name and Business number (your registration or VAT number) so your legal details are on file.
- Step 4
Add a Public email and Public phone / WhatsApp: they appear on business cards, vouchers and other quick prints.
- Step 5
Under Tax & timezone, pick the Timezone your shops are in.
- Step 6
Check the VAT rate (%) and the answer to Do your prices include VAT? Both carry your tax's name, so a shop in the United States sees Sales tax rate (%).
- Step 7
Check the Tax name. It follows your Country: Sales tax in the United States and its territories, VAT anywhere else. Type your own, such as GST or IVU, if your tax has another name, then tap Save.
What happens next
- The time zone is the shop's clock: today's takings, the open day, reports, commission tiers, the check-in cut-off, booking times, the date and time on receipts and the date in invoice and credit-note numbers all follow it.
- A new company name is used from the next receipt (unless the receipt has its own header line), quick print and emailed receipt.
- Once you have sold something with VAT, Do your prices include VAT? can no longer be changed here.
- A new Tax name or Country renames the tax on the till, receipts, emailed receipts, invoices and reports. No rate, price or figure changes.

Where do I upload the logo?
We chose the wrong VAT option and have already sold. What now?
Why does Zero POS say sales tax instead of VAT?
If you see this…
On screen
VAT rate must be between 0 and 100
What to do
Type the rate as a plain number, for example 20 for 20%. Leave 0 if your jurisdiction has no VAT.
On screen
Locked since your first sale with VAT — changing it would silently reprice everything in the shop. Support can change it for you if it was set up wrongly.
What to do
Keep the current choice, or contact support if it was set up wrongly.
On screen
That time zone isn't one we recognise. Pick one from the list, then save.
What to do
The time zone stored for your business isn't a real one, so the shop's clock has been running on UTC. Pick yours under Timezone and tap Save.
On screen
Not saved: whether your prices include VAT has been locked since your first sale with VAT. Support can change it for you if it was set up wrongly.
What to do
A sale with VAT was made while the screen was open. Reload it: the choice shows as locked, and everything else saves as usual.
Good to know
- Several shops in one workspace share these details. A business with its own company, currency or VAT needs its own workspace: see Work in more than one workspace.
